Work in progress (Or a Part-time Job?)

When Cody and I first thought of doing this, we thought to ourselves "Just start a go fund me page, put in the goal and we are good to go."  Needless to say this has literally become a part-time job for me.  We are constantly working on things, from the next practice walk to who can we reach out to for sponsorship.

The biggest hurdle however has been, who wants the money for Solar Panels.  Wow you must be thinking to such a statement and yet I still shake my head.  You see I would think handing over $20000.00 towards solar panels would be a no brainer.  Apparently, it takes time and effort to get an answer of acceptance.  We don't have many stipulations here.  Cody and I wanted it to go to a non-profit organization so that they can reap the benefits of lower hydro bills and that the funds must be used specifically for this use.  I guess even in the business of helping, you still have to answer to higher ups.  So tonight (in T-Minus 15 mins), we have a meeting with the Sunshine Coast Community Solar Association (have I mentioned that this group is amazing!  More on that shortly).  

Tonight we meet to try and figure out where to donate the $20000.  We ARE doing this as I am down to under 6 weeks to our walk.  So time is running out.  The thought of just doing a go fund me looks so much more promising right now.  We will get this done, I will reach out to everyone I know (and hope with the help of others the word will spread!).  Now I just sit and hope that this will come together and Cody and I will reach our goals.  

This can be done!


The SCCSA, wow.  What a group.  They took us under their wing, they made us board members and from there they have supported us along the way.  It is not just the bringing us in, but it feels like they are becoming our family.  Every time I turn around more support is coming our way.  This support can be as simple as some thoughts to full out helping us organize a step along our journey like finding us accommodation at one of our stops along the way.  Cody would like everyone to know the people on the board are amazing (however the meetings could be a bit shorter ;) ).  All in all, this is an amazing journey we are still looking forward to.

Now who wants the $20000?

What it takes to be able to do this walk.

  I knew going into this walk that one of the toughest things for me would be the battle to fight with my body and make it through the pain, the swelling, the inability to get up the next morning and move.  When I was 15 I blew out my ACL and Lateral Collateral ligaments in my right.  I was lucky enough to get in the next day and have surgery.  I subsequently had surgery on the same knee to remove a tear in the cartilage that was catching.  I was told by my original surgeon to expect that I would "blow out the other knee".  I have lived with this fear for the last 30 years approx.  1.5 years ago I was on the first day of a week long camp on Salt Spring Island with girl guides, I had a freak fall from the cube van that we were using.  I was taken away in an ambulance and misdiagnosed.  Turned out I had blown my ACL in my left knee.  The story here is that I stayed at the camp site for the week on crutches with very little meds, my knee swollen and pushed through. The Walks

 In January Cody and I decided we needed to train for this walk.  What you can't just get out and do the walk mom?  Nope, we need to prep.  Cody has been involved from day one and he is great at picking out places to walk.  Each week we have been attempting to do about 10km.  Cody let's me know where he wants to walk and I try to pick a spot to traverse.  We have decided to stick to the roads.   Why?  We will be walking cement on our main walk so we want to be as prepared as possible.  To date we have done 4 walks (each weekend we get out, with our first walk being the test run and three since). We are preparing to listen to podcasts on our main walk.  So far this has been a great thing to have on hand but not needed.  The amazing gift that Cody has, is the gift of gab.  He is a smart, inquisitive kid who never stops seeing things and questioning them.   Attached is a photo from each of walks so far.

What is in the word Inspiration?

When we decided to do this journey, I think both Cody and I thought "We will do a walk, we will hope to raise some money and we will try our best to make a small change in the world."   As I have said before, this walk initially was just a thought of putting on a backpack and hitting the road.  Setting up a go fund me page and hope that maybe we could obtain our lofty goal.  As time ticked on, this became so much bigger then I could have ever expected (and for that matter bigger then Cody could have ever dreamt too).   We ended up blessed with places to stay, sponsorship to cover our costs, people bringing us stuff along our route.  I think what has been the hardest thing to comprehend is that we were inspirational.  Many might currently be thinking "Well of course you were, you did something I could never do and look at all the funds you raised"  Truly inspirational indeed right?  Well these words had to sit with me for sometime before they kicked in.   Growing up
